THESSALONIKI, Greece — Greek police say they have arrested a 35-year-old German citizen who faces four outstanding arrest warrants for fraud and cybercrime, three German and one international.
Thessaloniki Police’s Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Division announced on Saturday that it found more than 1,000 photos and videos of child pornography in the suspect’s mobile phone when he was arrested on Thursday.
The man, who has been living in Greece since 2019, has been imprisoned pending the examination of extradition requests. He will also face a Greek prosecutor next week for impersonating a German and Greek police officer.
The suspect, whose mother was Greek, had shown what turned out to be a fake ID card from a German policeman throughout northern Greece, claiming he was part of a special unit investigating pedophile rings. He also posed as a Greek policeman, who recently visited a hospital wearing a police uniform, who was found at his home.
