A 59-year-old man and 58-year-old woman found dead in a rural western Minnesota home are believed to have died from a murder-suicide, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

At 2:24 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office was dispatched to the Battle Lake home where the two people were found dead.

“The Sheriff’s Office believes it to be an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the deaths with help from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey.

Authorities did not make other details public, including the names of the man and woman, the exact address of the home or the apparent cause of death.

Battle Lake is about 20 miles east of Fergus Falls.
