The nightmare for the National League is finally over.
With a 3-2 victory over the American League All-Stars in the Midsummer Classic, the National League ended a nine-game losing streak.
Elias Diaz of the Colorado Rockies hit a majestic two-run home ball off Felix Bautista of the Baltimore Orioles to give the National League a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning after the National League almost missed an opportunity in the top of the seventh.
Rob Thomson, the closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, called on Craig Kimbrel in the bottom of the ninth, but things heated up. Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Guardians came to the plate after he had given up back-to-back two-out walks, including one to hometown hero Julio Rodriguez who was the winning run. However, Kimbrel ended the game by getting Ramirez to swing at a high fastball.
The winner of the contest was Diaz.

Yandy Diaz of the Tampa Bay Rays started the scoring with a solo home run off of Mitch Keller of the Pittsburgh Pirates, but Luis Arraez of the Miami Marlins knotted the score in the fourth inning with an RBI single off of hometown favorite George Kirby. Arraez recorded two hits, demonstrating to the world why he's vying for the top spot in MLB.400 since Ted Williams' 1941.406 batting average. The only other players with multiple hits were him and J.D. Martinez of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays scored Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals on an Alexis Diaz sacrifice fly to give the American League a 2-1 advantage.
With the help of leaping catches by Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers and Randy Arozarena of the Rays, Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees, who started the game for the AL, was able to retire the side in order. Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks received the nod for the NL and pitched an inning without allowing a run.

With Sean Murphy behind the plate, Austin Riley, Orlando Arcia, Ozzie Albies, and Matt Olson completing the infield from left to right in the fifth inning, the National League's complete infield—aside from the pitcher—was at one point entirely made up of Atlanta Braves.
Barry Bonds questions why the Hall of Fame is punishing him, claiming that he "belongs" in Cooperstown.
As a precaution, according to Dusty Baker, Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano departed the game in the sixth inning after being examined by trainers for back pain. Against Thomson, whose Phillies won the NL championship last year, Baker led the American League roster as the defending AL (and World Series) champion with the Houston Astros.

Kirby gave up the aforementioned one run in his inning of work in front of their own home crowd, while Rodriguez went 0 for 1 with a walk. Despite earning a third All-Star selection, Luis Castillo did not pitch.
When Shohei Ohtani becomes a free agent, the Seattle fans made it clear they want him to move up north. They chanted "Come to Seattle" during each of his plate performances. At the end of the current season, Ohtani will become a free agent. He has the potential to sign a $600 million contract and become the first player to earn $500 million.

The National League has only won the Midsummer Classic seven times since 1988, going 6-27-1 over the prior 34 years. The last time the All-Star Games won was far back in 2012 (there was no game in 2020).
The Rangers' stadium, Globe Life Field, will host the 2024 All-Star Game.
