Legendary Minnesota Vikings player Everson Griffen was reportedly detained on Saturday in the Twin Cities. The former defensive end was brought into police custody that day at 12:42 and released an hour later, according to documents from Carver County Jail.
The 35-year-old was detained in Chanhassen on suspicion of operating a vehicle while inebriated, but it's unclear whether official charges were brought.
Griffen, a four-time Pro Bowler, played for the Vikings for 10 years before leaving in 2020 to temporarily play for the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions. In 2021, he joined the Vikings once more for a season.
The former defensive standout has struggled with issues relating to his mental health. Two years ago, he reported receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis. This disclosure came after two key events in Minnesota.

During one such incident in 2021, Griffen claimed in many Instagram posts that he had obtained a weapon with the help of his former teammate Dalvin Cook and that intruders were trying to break into his home.
Griffen, however, resisted leaving his house for several hours despite the fact that the police did not discover any intruders nearby. He eventually consented to be transferred to a mental health facility after speaking with law authorities and the Vikings team psychologists.
