Lightning has officially caused the kickoff for the Miami Hurricanes and Miami (OH) Redhawks game on Friday night to be postponed, according to the Hurricanes' Twitter feed.
The Miami Hurricanes tweeted that they were experiencing a lightning delay at 5:56 PM ET. "There is a lightning delay right now. More information will be released as it becomes available, according to their Twitter page.
The game's official start time has been moved back to 7:22 PM EST and is being played in Miami, Florida. At around 6:41 PM EST, the Hurricanes' Twitter page revised the kickoff time. "Kickoff is now scheduled for 7:22," they said. The ACC Network will broadcast the game.
The start time of the game on Friday night was initially 7 PM EST.
Players who will miss Week 1 are made known by Mario Cristobal.
A few Hurricanes players are still recovering from ailments, but Miami is mostly healthy going into its season opener versus Miami (Ohio).
Recently, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal made public who will not play in the Week 1 game on Friday night.
Our whole team, with the exception of the players who underwent surgery, is now expected to be able to participate. Therefore, TreVonte' Citizen were the men who underwent surgery. Really close by is Jonathan Denis. Although he might not play in this match, we believe he will be prepared for Game 2 or 3. Chase Smith is free to go. He has been playing for all of the special teams and defense units, according to Cristobal. "Zion [Nelson] is going to be kept back a little bit more, in my opinion. He will return, but not just yet. It has taken us this long to do it correctly. We want to do it fully correctly. … Perhaps Antonio Tripp, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery after three weeks. Apart from that, we believe our team is in good shape coming into the game.
To recap: TreVonte' Citizen, a redshirt freshman running back, Jonathan Denis, a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman, Zion Nelson, a redshirt junior offensive lineman, and Antonio Tripp, a redshirt freshman offensive lineman, all seem set to miss Miami's season opener on Friday.
Everyone else, including Hurricanes redshirt sophomore linebacker Chase Smith, who sustained injuries this offseason, should be available.
Nelson previously started games as a starter, while Denis appeared in five games with two starts in 2022 of the players who will miss the opener. In 2021, he made 12 starts at left tackle for the Hurricanes.
