The 68-year-old has already wed twice. Salve's previous spouses included Meenakshi Salve and Caroline Brossard. After 38 years of marriage, Salve and his first wife Meenakshi split in June 2020. He served as the defense attorney in the well-publicized double homicide case involving Aarushi and Hemraj. He also handled Salman Khan's hit-and-run case, and after the Bombay High Court's ruling in December 2015, he succeeded in getting the actor the actor's acquittal.

In May 2017, Salve gained notoriety for defending Kulbhushan Jadhav before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Jadhav was found guilty of spying and given a death sentence by a military tribunal in Pakistan. Salve made compelling arguments, and the ICJ decided to temporarily suspend Jadhav's conviction pending the outcome of the case. According to the late Sushma Swaraj, who served as the former minister of external affairs, Harish Salve charged just Rs. 1 to pursue this lawsuit. Salve defended the Union government in the Cauvery water issue before the Supreme Court in 2018.

After earning his LL.B. from Nagpur University, Harish Salve was named a senior counsel at the Delhi High Court in 1992. In 1999, he was named the Solicitor General of India. The legal guru, who presided as India's Solicitor General from 1999 to 2002, was chosen in January to serve as the Queen's Counsel for the courts of Wales and England. In 2013, Salve was admitted to Blackstone Chambers and made a member of the English Bar.
