According to officials, the TMC won a by-election on Friday to take the Dhupguri assembly seat from the BJP in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district.
College lecturer and TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy won the seat by more over 4,000 votes. According to them, Tapasi Roy, a member of the BJP and the widow of a CRPF jawan murdered in a terrorist assault in Jammu and Kashmir in 2021, was his main competitor.

They stated that the Congress-backed CPI(M) candidate Ishwar Chandra Roy came in a far-off third place.
Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the TMC, claimed that the residents of Dhupguri preferred the politics of progress above bigotry and prejudice.
