ABBA, Radiohead and The Cure musicians sign AI protest letter

LONDON (AP) — Musicians from ABBA, Radiohead and The Remedy have joined actors and authors in signing a protest letter towards the mining of their artistry to construct synthetic intelligence instruments.

1000’s of artists signed the letter launched Tuesday — the most recent public warning about AI instruments that may spit out artificial pictures, music and writings after being educated on big troves of human-made works.

“The unlicensed use of artistic works for coaching generative AI is a serious, unjust menace to the livelihoods of the folks behind these works, and should not be permitted,” says the petition.

Among the many signatories are Björn Ulvaeus of the Swedish supergroup ABBA, The Remedy’s Robert Smith and Thom Yorke and his Radiohead bandmates. Additionally signing had been writers together with Nobel-winning novelist Kazuo Ishiguro and actors Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Rosario Dawson.

Bestselling novelist James Patterson signed Tuesday’s letter and one other open letter final 12 months organized by the Authors Guild, which later introduced a lawsuit towards AI firms that’s nonetheless continuing in a New York federal courtroom.
