President Akufo-Addo confers Ghanaian citizenship on Stevie Wonder

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conferred Ghanaian citizenship on the legendary American Musician and Songwriter, Steveland Morris, popularly referred to as Stevie Marvel at a ceremony on the Jubilee Home in Accra.

This marks a major milestone within the nation’s efforts to draw diasporan Africans and recognise excellent contributions to the African diaspora.

President Akufo-Addo praised Stevie Marvel for his excellent contributions to music and his unrelenting dedication to the African diaspora.

He emphasised that Stevie Marvel’s music has been a supply of inspiration to generations of Ghanaians and Africans worldwide and that his go to to Ghana would assist to strengthen the ties between Africa and its diaspora.

The Minister for the Inside, Hon. Henry Quartey in his remarks, counseled the President for championing the 12 months of Return initiative which has up to now culminated within the registration of 252 people from Africa- American and Caribbean Diasporan Communities as Ghanaians.

Stevie Marvel, a long-time admirer of Ghana and its wealthy cultural heritage, expressed deep gratitude, pleasure and honour bestowed upon him.

In line with him, he has been drawn to Ghana’s vibrant tradition and heat hospitality and he was thrilled to now name himself a Ghanaian citizen.

The occasion marked a major second in Ghana’s efforts to interact with its diaspora counterparts and recognise their excellent contributions to the African diaspora. It’s anticipated to encourage additional collaboration and trade between Ghana and the African diaspora, and cement Ghana’s place as a hub for African cultural and mental excellence.
