NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Scores of sick and ravenous pelicans have been present in coastal California communities in current weeks and lots of others have died.

Lifeguards noticed a cluster of two dozen sick pelicans earlier this week on a pier in coastal Newport Seashore and referred to as in wildlife specialists to help.

“They’re ravenous to loss of life and if we don’t get them into care, they’ll die,” McGuire stated. “It truly is a disaster.”

Fowl Rescue, which runs two wildlife facilities in Northern and Southern California, reported 110 sick pelicans up to now three weeks, many entangled in fishing line or hooks. An identical occasion occurred in 2022, the group stated.
