Record river flooding expected in Western NC

Flooding in Buncombe County and surrounding areas of Western North Carolina has led to necessary evacuation orders as rivers overflow previous spillways.

Although Hurricane Helene has now been downgraded to a tropical storm, its path towards WNC has left outages, flooding and landslides in its wake.

In a 12:30 p.m. bulletin, Buncombe County mentioned rivers within the county haven’t but crested. The press launch urged residents to proceed to hunt larger floor and shelter in place. Don’t drive except you’re shifting to larger floor.

Here is what we learn about flooding on the French Broad and Swannanoa rivers related to a number of evacuation orders.
