MADRID (AP) — A Spanish investigative Justice of the Peace on Thursday provisionally shelved the most recent probe into an alleged case of tax fraud by pop star Shakira following suggestions by prosecutors.
The Colombian singer had been underneath investigation for the alleged evasion of 6.7 million euros ($7.2 million) in taxes on her 2018 earnings through an offshore firm. She denied wrongdoing.
State prosecutors who initially introduced the allegations stated Wednesday “there may be not enough proof” of a potential fiscal crime and advisable that the probe be closed.
In an announcement Thursday, the investigating courtroom stated that on condition that there isn’t a accusation on behalf of prosecutors or the regional authorities of Catalonia in northeastern Spain, there was no trigger to proceed additional with the case.
