A few months ago, Olivia Wilde appeared on Vogue’s The Run-Through podcast to discuss her directorial work — and some of the challenges she faces when casting talent.

Opening up about how she struggles to find actors without intense cosmetic work, Olivia said, “As a director, I now am constantly searching for actresses who can still move their faces. And it’s not easy!”

“I don’t blame them. I’m a product of the same machine, I’m under the same pressures; I get it,” she continued. “I just pray for technology to allow treatments that just aren’t so aggressive. Like, there’s something so medieval about all these things. Can’t someone come up with something better than Botox?”

Olivia’s comments resurfaced on X this week, sparking conversation around some of the famous faces who haven’t had a ton of Botox.
Several people immediately mentioned Rachel McAdams, 47, who recently went viral for her “natural” appearance in Sam Raimi’s 2026 survival horror film, Send Help. While she hasn’t publicly commented on the subject, Rachel has won praise for her apparent lack of facial cosmetic work on and offscreen, with fans feeling “refreshed” after seeing her “real” appearance in interviews.

Amanda Seyfried is another star whose expressive range has been applauded, notably in the 2025 musical drama The Testament of Ann Lee. While shooting the film, Amanda “couldn’t get Botox for a year” — something that she described as “a big assignment” during a chat with Vanity Fair last year. “When I first got [Botox], I was, like, ‘This is amazing’ — because I frown a lot. But then it all came back in a way that was absolutely necessary for all the work I was doing,” she said.

What’s more, Carrie Coon has spoken openly about her decision not to get Botox, opting instead for “science-based skincare” treatments and embracing her natural beauty. “Authenticity is more evocative than any kind of engineering you might consider doing to your face or your body… This is not the message coming from culture. As a woman who is 44, watching myself in HD is not easy, and it’s not comfortable,” she said last year, adding that she’s often “typecast” in acting roles “older” than her actual age.

And while she hasn’t explicitly commented on whether she gets Botox, Anne Hathaway recently shut down widespread rumors that she’d had a facelift. The speculation was fueled by Anne showcasing her hair-snatching “trick” for looking more “awake” at the 2026 Oscars, after which she told Elle magazine, “My preference would be to never comment on anything and to just live in the mystery and not draw attention to myself, but the speculation has gotten so loud that you do feel the need to just get your truth out there. No, I didn’t make a huge medical decision. It’s just two braids.”

Carey Mulligan has long been outspoken against Botox, revealing that she was once offered the injectables when she was 23. “I was bothered by the lines under my eyes, and went to see someone, hoping for a cream, but they said, ‘We can just put a bit of Botox in.’ And I replied, ‘My whole job is about me moving my face!'” she recalled. Standing firm on her decision to avoid Botox, Carey said in 2018, “At the moment my daughter’s favourite thing is to push my forehead together and shout, ‘Mummy, lines!'”

After Season 2 of Netflix’s Beef aired earlier this year, several viewers at home felt refreshed over Carey’s natural appearance. “i feel it is nice to see someone not botox’d to hell,” one Reddit user said, while another echoed, “Her face was NORMAL and beautiful. Thank god. I find seeing botox/filler on screen disturbing and distracting.”

And in a similar vein, Emilia Clarke famously refuses to have injections to protect her acting ability. “I once had a facialist who told me I needed fillers and I showed her the door. I was literally just like, ‘get out,'” she once recalled, adding, “I work in an industry where I’ve got to move my face, and I’ve got to be expressive, and you can’t light filler. You just can’t light it. It doesn’t look right, you look shiny and strange. If my job is telling me that I need to have anything more than possibly a bit of Botox when I’m 45 or whatever, then I’ll stop doing the job.”
