You can’t say James Austin Johnson isn’t making the most of Saturday Night Live‘s brief October hiatus. The Season 52 cast member made a stunning cross-cast cameo on the most recent episode of Saturday Night Live UK.
Johnson debuted his now-famous President Trump impression during SNL UK‘s October 17 cold open.
In “President Trump and Andy Burnham’s Job Swap,” Johnson’s Trumps interrupts a meeting between UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham (SNL UK cast member George Fouracres) and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky (Freddie Meredith). He pitches a plan that would see Trump and Burnham switch roles.
“I take over the UK, you take America,” Trump explained. “I tell you, that place is a real mess, you’re gonna hate it! It’s an awful, awful job. It’s a terrible place filled with disgusting people, I don’t know what the hell happened.”
“I can’t swap jobs with you now! I barely even started, people don’t even hate me yet,” Fouracre’s Burnham protested.
Johnson gave overseas viewers the full Trump impression experience, showing off his pitch-perfect vocal inflection and delivering plenty of absurd-yet-realistic musings as he complained about everything UK-related.
“And how about that tiger, folks? Big tiger problems, gobbling your guys up,” Trump vamped, referencing the man who died after entering a wildlife park’s tiger enclosure on October 10. “I’m team tiger. I like all orange predators. Game recognize game. Orange predator solidarity.”
Talk about a crossover moment. Watch it here.
