BET Awards Set to Go Ahead Despite Los Angeles ICE Protests

Amid ongoing widespread protests throughout Los Angeles County in opposition to illegal immigration raids, the organizers behind the BET Awards have reaffirmed that the 2025 ceremony on the Peacock Theater will go forward as deliberate on Monday night.

In a press release to The Hollywood Reporter, a BET spokesperson stated, “BET stays dedicated to the protection of our company and workers. We’re working carefully with LAPD and monitoring the scenario. The 2025 BET Awards will happen Monday, June ninth, 2025, at 8pm ET/PT as scheduled.”

Violent clashes erupted throughout immigration raids throughout Los Angeles this week, as demonstrations escalated into avenue battles between protesters and legislation enforcement. On June 6, protests turned chaotic when crowds fought working battles with LAPD and ICE brokers who had been making an attempt raids to choose up undocumented individuals. The unrest unfold on June 7, with new confrontations breaking out between activists and federal officers in Paramount and Compton throughout continued enforcement operations.

The scenario in Los Angeles escalated on Sunday as hundreds of residents flooded the streets surrounding Metropolis Corridor and the federal courthouse, bringing a serious freeway to a halt in protest of President Donald Trump’s transfer to deploy their state’s Nationwide Guard to quell the demonstrations. The protests have led to questions round massive public occasions within the L.A.-area.

In response, California Gov. Gavin Newsom formally requested that the Trump Administration “rescind their illegal deployment of troops in Los Angeles County and return them to my command.” He added in a press release on Instagram, “We didn’t have an issue till Trump received concerned. This can be a critical breach of state sovereignty — inflaming tensions whereas pulling assets from the place they’re really wanted.”

Additional heightening tensions, Secretary of Protection Pete Hegseth tweeted on Sunday, “If violence continues, energetic obligation Marines at Camp Pendleton can even be mobilized — they’re on excessive alert.”

Newsom tweeted back at Hegseth, “The Secretary of Protection is now threatening to deploy active-duty Marines on American soil in opposition to its personal residents. That is deranged habits.”
