- Dax Shepard and Taron Egerton reflected on being raised by single mothers on the Armchair Expert podcast.
- The Parenthood alum detailed hating how his mom would sometimes dress during his youth.
- The actors also spoke candidly about the ups and downs with their respective fathers.
Dax Shepard wasn’t shy when it came to discussing his childhood during a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.
The topic of being raised by a single mother came up while the Parenthood alum was interviewing Taron Egerton on the Aug. 10 episode of his podcast. Both actors could relate to feeling some type of way about how their respective moms looked.
“I remember, dude, my mom has big boobs,” Shepard said. “My mom would occasionally wear a f—ing white tank top and I just remember like, ‘Oh f–k man. We’re going to the grocery store. She’s in the white tank top. There’s gonna be like weird dudes that just start talking to her.’ I hated it.”

Egerton had a similar experience.
“My mother is, and has always been, an attractive woman. I can remember that as a boy,” the Rocketman star shared. “I can remember the feelings of rage and I can remember the feelings of inadequacy and I can remember not knowing what to do with all of that, and, probably, also wanting her to be looking at me more than them.”
Shepard said when it comes to single mothers and their sons, there is “a blurry line between child and partner” more often than not.
“You are filling in some gaps because they don’t have anyone there to share their day with,” Shepard explained. “You just you take on a role that is a little more complex than otherwise, I think.”
Shepard and Egerton also detailed their relationships with their fathers. The podcast host has spoken about the tumultuous relationship with his father, who died in 2012 following a battle with lung cancer.
“I think we were very similar more than I ever wanted to admit,” Shepard explained. “I think the way we got injured and the way we protected ourselves was just like a match made in hell, for the most part.”

Egerton, meanwhile, said he had a “fairly functional relationship” when he was growing up.
“As I got older that became more difficult and I haven’t spoken to him for a number of years now,” the Black Bird actor continued. “I’m reluctant to talk in too much detail about him because he’s living his own life and doing his own thing.”
Egerton added, ‘I’ll always love him. I do love him. I just don’t think we work very well in terms of our relationship. There was a point where I pushed the ejector seat and haven’t haven’t seen him since.”
