Gal Gadot might be Wonder Woman, but a famous director didn’t opt to harness her DC superhero energy during the audition process for a major 2015 movie.
The 41-year-old actress revealed during a new interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (below) that she weathered a four-hour audition for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, and spent most of it alongside fellow actor Tom Hiddleston — though neither of them landed their respective parts, Gadot said.
“It was crazy. I did my match [test] with Tom Hiddleston. We were in London,” Gadot told the podcast, referencing a screen-testing process many actors go through during any audition process for a major production.

“I remember walking into this beautiful home in London, into this office, and we stayed there for four hours,” Gadot noted. “I came there with all layers; it was a cold winter day in London. I came out in a tank top. It was so intense, the work that we’d done and how much we filmed. It was amazing.”
Gadot auditioned for the role of Furiosa, which ultimately went to Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron in the 2015 production also starring Tom Hardy— itself another entry in Miller’s beloved Mad Max franchise.
When asked if she was surprised about not landing the part, Gadot admitted that it did stun her a bit, “because I felt good about the work that we did” in the audition.
“Hiddleston is such an incredible actor. By the way, I’ve never seen him since! And I didn’t know him back then. He was a big theater actor in England. He was so amazing, and it felt really good,” Gadot noted.
She added that Miller ultimately “had a vision for what he wanted,” and that didn’t include herself or Hiddleston in the final film. (Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Miller and Hiddleston for comment.)
While Fury Road went on to win six Oscars at the 2016 Academy Awards, Gadot landed the title role in Wonder Woman in the 2017 DC Comics adaptation.
She’d later draw criticism for both her acting and her involvement in the Israeli army as a combat trainer.
Her work in Disney’s live-action Snow White adaptation drew particular criticism, with many lambasting her performance as the Evil Queen in the 2025 film.
Gadot later addressed the backlash the film received, after she told the Jerusalem Post that “pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel” contributed to the film’s underperformance, with regard to the Palestinian militant group Hamas’ killing of many Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023.

“When the film came out, I felt that those who are against Israel criticized me in a very personal, almost visceral way,” she later clarified on Instagram. “They saw me first and foremost as an Israeli, not as an actress. That’s the perspective I spoke from when I answered the question.”
