Despite his strong form in Saudi Arabia, Julián Quiñones’ place with the Mexican national team has always felt uncertain. Rumors of a supposed rift with head coach Javier “El Vasco” Aguirre have been circulating for weeks — but according to Quiñones himself, none of it is true.
In an interview with TUDN, Quiñones addressed the speculation head‑on, making it clear that his relationship with Aguirre is solid. The forward said he communicates openly with the Mexican manager and appreciates the support he receives.
“We have a really good relationship,” Quiñones explained. “We talk about what matters most — what happens on the field, how I’m feeling. He gives me a lot of encouragement because, whether you like it or not, players sometimes doubt themselves or lose confidence. He helps me stay grounded, reminds me I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, that I’m the player I am, and that I just need to give my best.”

Quiñones: World Cup spots are earned, not given
For Quiñones, the idea that personal issues could determine who makes the World Cup roster is pure fiction. He insists that daily work and performance are what truly matter.
“These are just people imagining things and spreading rumors where there’s nothing,” he said. “I’ve always been ready for whatever comes, always working. That’s what gives me confidence — knowing I’m one step away from a World Cup. Hard work is what decides whether you go or not.”
Dominant in Saudi Arabia, quiet with ‘El Tri’
Quiñones’ club numbers in Saudi Arabia have been eye‑catching. Playing for Al‑Qadsiah, he’s scored 28 goals this season, placing him among the top scorers in the Saudi Pro League.
But with Mexico, the story has been very different.
In 19 appearances for El Tri, he has just two goals, and he has yet to score under Aguirre’s tenure.
