Tamayo Perry, pipeline surfer who appeared in ‘Blue Crush,’ killed in shark attack near Oahu’s North Shore in Hawaii

OAHU, Hawaii — A well known surfer and lifeguard was killed in a shark assault close to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, emergency officers stated.

Tamayo Perry, 49, was attacked within the water off Goat Island noon on Sunday, the Honolulu Emergency Providers Division stated in an announcement.

Perry had been a lifeguard with Honolulu Ocean Security since 2016. He was a neighborhood surf coach and competed for years within the Pipeline Grasp Trials, in line with his official bio on his teaching website.

Perry appeared within the 2002 film “Blue Crush,” together with episodes of “Hawaii 5-O” and “The Bridge,” in line with IMDB.

Perry was a “well-known North Shore waterman,” who “exemplified bravery, dedication and a deep sense of responsibility,” Mayor Rick Blangiardi stated in an announcement.

“His heroic actions and tireless efforts to make sure the security of our residents and guests won’t ever be forgotten,” the mayor stated.

Goat Island sits off Mlaekahana Seaside on the northeastern coast of Oahu.

The primary emergency name got here in at about 1 p.m. on Sunday, officers stated. Perry’s physique was introduced on shore by way of a jet ski.

“A caller informed dispatchers the person’s physique appeared to have suffered multiple shark chunk,” EMS officers stated in an announcement.
