Palworld v1.0.3 patch notes: Everything new in the August 12 update

Palworld continues to be on a roll, and now we’re a month past the 1.0 launch; the biggest update since then was released this morning for all platforms. Palworld v1.0.3 is a major balance patch for the game, particularly surrounding end-game progression, which players will have experienced for the first time over the last few weeks. Here’s our full breakdown of the Palworld v1.0.3 patch notes, so you know everything that’s changed.

The biggest rebalance concerns World Tree Holy Water, which has been completely rebalanced. This material is required to farm any resource within the World Tree, and it’s needed to refine Paloxite ingots. It was kind of a pain to farm before, but thankfully every method of getting it has been buffed in Palworld v1.0.3.

Drops from Pals and Teafant Springs have been buffed; you can now get it from World Tree expeditions, fishing, and the Large Fishing Pond in your base. Plus, the duration of its effects has been increased, and its weight has been decreased to 0.1, making it all-round much more convenient to farm.

Tech Tree changes

A few points on the Tech Tree have been shifted earlier on, as the developers felt they are too late-game to be properly enjoyable. First is the saddle for riding Jetragon, which has been moved from Level 79 to Level 70, which is the same level that you’ll find Jetragon in the wild, so you can get Palworld’s fastest flying mount much earlier on.

Additionally, the Aquatic Construction Kit – which lets you build a base over water – has been dropped all the way from Level 66 to Level 22, letting you build it way earlier on if you want a cool ocean base. Both items have also had their recipes adjusted to fit with where they now sit on the Tech Tree.

Crude Oil rebalancing

One of the complaints that significantly slows down Palworld’s midgame is how slowly Crude Oil is farmed. While this is to encourage players to go out and assault the Oil Rigs dotted around the map, it’s still frustrating to watch your own Oil setup run so inefficiently.

To help with this, a number of changes have been made to the Crude Oil Extractor and the High-Pressure Crude Oil Extractor:

  • Both now cost fewer Pal Metal Ingots to build

  • Both now produce Crude Oil faster

  • The Large Power Generator is now cheaper to build

This makes setting up good oil extraction a lot easier, and everything will run a lot faster once you’ve invested the materials to get this particular engine running. It should stop Crude Oil and Plasteel being such a mid-game bottleneck for players.

Major bug fixes

Rounding out the update are a whole host of bug fixes that will help smooth out the overall play experience. Some are platform-specific crashes, like how the game could sometimes crash on PS5 when opening the Global Palbox; while others are annoying bugs that all platforms can encounter, like how Pals can occasionally just stop fighting for seemingly no reason.
