Andrew Wiggins just recently agreed to an opt-in and extension package for the Miami Heat this offseason. However, with his team facing a glaring problem at point guard after landing Giannis Antetokounmpo via trade, will the Heat opt to move Wiggins to another team?
For now, the Heat might be content to hand the playmaking duties to Davion Mitchell, a five-year pro. Mitchell surprisingly started all 70 games he played last season for Miami. The team’s long-time head coach, Erik Spoelstra, seemed to like what the 27-year-old brings to the table.

While Mitchell did his job admirably, there’s a discussion that, if this team wants to get back to the top, it needs to find a long-term solution at point guard.

The Miami Heat are approaching luxury tax territory for the 2026-2027 NBA season. Their best avenue to acquire more talent is through trade. That’s where Andrew Wiggins comes in. Many teams still covet his services due to his versatility to play multiple positions on the court. And he’s a proven winner, too.
Now, how can the Heat potentially improve their point guard position? There’s a pathway for that, and it involves trading Wiggins to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Jrue Holiday.

For Wiggins to become effective at what he does, he needs the ball in his hands. Due to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s arrival in Miami, he may be limited to catch-and-shoot opportunities. But in Portland, the 31-year-old could become a valuable asset in a starting role. And he will be tasked to create offense as well.
In addition, this would be a great move for the Blazers, as they would have the chance to unclog their backcourt rotation. Sans Holiday, they will have Ja Morant, Scoot Henderson, and the returning Damian Lillard.

The Orlando Magic might agree on this deal just to shed some salary to go under the luxury tax. That’s how the new CBA affects teams’ mindsets nowadays.
Acquiring Jrue Holiday is a game-changer for the Miami Heat. A bona fide winner, he could guide this team to the top of the East as soon as next season. He is the perfect point guard that this team needs in their quest for another championship. It also doesn’t hurt that Holiday and Antetokounmpo have played together and won it all before. Their chemistry won’t be questioned.
And Tristan da Silva isn’t just a throw-in in this trade proposal either. The 24-year-old can play significant minutes for Miami moving forward. Coach Spoelstra would find a way to maximize his potential.
In reality, the Miami Heat will have a hard time contending next season, even with Giannis, unless they find a suitable floor general to run their offense. Davion Mitchell might take a leap, but having a guy like Holiday takes them to another level.

The truth is, they don’t need to add another big-name player. They just need a veteran point guard who knows the difference between contention and winning it all.
