Miami vs Pitt live updates, start time, game predictions, TV schedule

The No. 1 Miami Hurricanes — a phrase that hasn’t been said in 24 years — host Pittsburgh today in their first game in daylight of the 2026 college football season.

UM improved to 6-0 (4-0 in ACC) after a 43-35 double-overtime thriller against Florida State with Darian Mensah throwing three touchdowns but also his first interception with his new team. Malachi Toney remains the engine of the nation’s No. 1 offense, but freshman running back Javian Mallory has overtaken Mark Fletcher Jr. as the team’s leading rusher after a 108-yard, two-touchdown game last week.

Could Miami football leave ACC to go independent?

10:55 AM ET, October 24 2026, Dan Rorabaugh

Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellinger published a lengthy article Thursday, Oct. 22, from an interview with Miami president Joe Echevarria, who stated plainly the school’s aspirations to leave the ACC and join the Big Ten or SEC. The provisions limiting conference members in the current version of the Protect College Sports Act means the Hurricanes might instead become a football independent, which would be a return to their dynasty run in the 1980s until joining the Big East in 1991. “If we have to go independent, I like our chances because we are a national brand,” Echevarria told Dellinger, at least as far as football goes.
