DiJonai Carrington was ruled out of Friday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries, but the Chicago Sky could have their veteran forward back in time for Sunday’s highly anticipated meeting with the Indiana Fever.
Carrington is currently unavailable because of a foot injury, marking her first absence since returning from a lengthy injury.

The veteran guard made her season debut July 30 and is averaging 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 17.1 minutes per game, and has played nine games this season. She also made an immediate impact in the Aug. 8 meeting with Indiana, scoring eight points in four minutes before being ejected following a Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham.

On Friday, Sky coach Tyler Marsh explained that Carrington did not feel well enough to practice Thursday or play Friday, but the team hopes she can return Sunday. Marsh clarified that there was no setback, with Carrington dealing with foot soreness from playing.

“She obviously didn’t feel well enough to practice yesterday or to play today, so hopefully she’ll be back on Sunday, but we’ll see.”

That would set the stage for a rematch that has generated plenty of anticipation. The Sky and Fever will meet for the second time in three weeks after their heated Aug. 8 matchup ended with Indiana winning 90-86.
Carrington’s hard foul on Cunningham, her subsequent ejection and the fallout afterward have kept the upcoming meeting firmly on the radar. Carrington herself appeared to look ahead immediately after the incident, posting “8/23 😁” on social media.

The scheduling also gives Chicago an advantage in terms of rest. The Sky will have Saturday off before hosting Indiana, while the Fever will play on the second night of a back-to-back after visiting the New York Liberty on Saturday.
If cleared to play, Carrington’s return would add another physical perimeter defender and scorer against a Fever team led by Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston. The game is scheduled for 7pm ET at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
